Product Description

Canon's storied S Series gets a revitalized new leader in the slimmer, lighter, PowerShot S90, the perfect everyday camera for people who are serious about great photography. Image quality is superb thanks to the new High Sensitivity System and higher ISO speeds, plus an exceptionally bright f/2.0 lens that makes portraits and low-light shots come to life. Photography enthusiasts will love the new control ring at the base of the lens barrel, designed for intuitive, pro-style manual control.

FEATURES:
  • 10-megapixel sensor coupled with Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor - The PowerShot S90 employs a 10-megapixel High Sensitivity System by combining a powerful CCD sensor and Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Thanks to this technological advancement, the S90 is dramatically more sensitive than cameras with identical megapixel counts, and delivers spectacular images with minimal noise. Increased sensitivity demands a higher ISO speed, and the PowerShot S90 delivers with a new maximum setting of ISO 3,200. Blur and camera shake are notably reduced for the ultimate in sharpness and clarity.
  • Compact and pocket-sized camera for everyday use for the advanced amateur - Serious photography buffs never want to miss a shooting opportunity, and that means keeping a high-quality camera on hand at all times. With a robust feature set that meets an advanced amateur's exacting standards, the compact PowerShot S90 fits the bill. The S90 boasts an incredibly slim profile and lightweight body for pocket-sized convenience, yet packs in advanced capabilities that make every image memorable. It's the perfect take-along complement to your camera collection.

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Camera For Everyday Use   September 8, 2010
Himalayafan
This camera takes great photos, has great features, and is portable. I highly recommend it. One thing I would recommend though is the custom grip from Lensmate, it helps the handeling.

2 out of 5 stars Like handling a slippery bar of soap   September 7, 2010
Photog 73 (Philly, PA)
Based on the hype and stellar (bordering on breathless) reviews I REALLY want to like this camera.
This, on paper, is a semi-pro, pocketable, low-light wonder for a fairly reasonable price
On Paper.
In actual use, a disappointment for 2 reasons.
-Ergonomics are HORRIBLE. Body is SLIPPERY, difficult to get a firm grip on shiny plastic/metal. Flash is located where your left fingers would fall naturally.
-Power button is oddly located. Does not seem like a big deal, but is in the field. The power button is concave and somehow is located in the middle of the camera body???

Picture quality is hard to judge critically since I could never get a firm, steady grip on it and the ergomonics irritated the heck of out me. The output I did take as JPEG, was OK, with somewhat soft details and naturals colors. Metering, for a compact is above average and seems better then most at avoiding blown out highlights.

Picture quality overall is fine.

Ironically, the placement of the rear dial, which many reviewers have complained spins too easily or is too easy to brush, was fine in actual use.

The much vaunted front dial on the lens barrel is, again, fine in concept, but in practice is tricky to adjust while attempting to compose AND to keep your fingers from hitting the lens barrel.

Bottomline-A nice idea in practice, but in reality, just does not live up to it's hype. I returned it.

5 out of 5 stars Great camera   September 6, 2010
Michael T. Repucci (Fresno, CA USA)
Bought S90 to replace SD850 which I really liked and wanted to keep. After using it on 3 week vacation I am as happy with its features and picture quality as I am with my 50D. My only issures are the battery won't last a full day of shooting and the dial on the back of the camera is a little too easy to turn (switching functions). Otherwise great, versatile camera for those interested in more than just a point and shoot.

5 out of 5 stars Best. Camera. Ever.   September 6, 2010

It's about time they made a camera like this. GREAT low light. GREAT options. I love this thing. It's my favorite!

5 out of 5 stars Nice camera   September 6, 2010

Love this camera...and have taken some great shots with it! It is a bit heavier and bulkier than I expected- but the power makes up for it. Definitely worth the price for the quality.
